1. The Legend of Lake Toba
Long ago, in a quiet village in North Sumatra, a poor fisherman lived alone. One day, while fishing in the river, he caught a very unusual fish. To his surprise, the fish suddenly transformed into a beautiful woman.
The woman told him that she was under a magical spell. She agreed to marry the fisherman, but she asked him to promise one important thing: he must never tell anyone about her secret. The fisherman promised, and they soon lived happily together and had a son.
As the boy grew older, he became a little lazy and sometimes disobedient. One day, the fisherman asked his son to deliver food to the field, but the boy ate most of it on the way. The fisherman became very angry and forgot his promise. In his anger, he shouted, “You are the son of a fish!”

Before leaving, Baru Klinthing told the old woman to climb a nearby hill because something big would happen. Then he stuck a small wooden stick into the ground.
Later, the villagers tried to pull the stick out of the ground. When they finally removed it, water suddenly burst out from the hole.
The water quickly flooded the village and turned the entire area into a large lake called Rawa Pening.
